The Power of Generosity: Living Out Our Calling Through Our Gifts

Brenda Soto

Generosity is more than an action - it's a posture of the heart.

In a world that often encourages us to hold tightly to what we have, Scripture invites us into something radically different: a life marked by open hands. Not just with our finances, but with our time, our talents, our presence, and our compassion.

At its core, generosity is not about how much we give. It’s about how willing we are to offer what God has entrusted to us.

We Are Stewards, Not Owners

Everything we have - our abilities, our experiences, our resources - has been given to us on purpose. Not for our own gain alone, but to serve others.

When we begin to see our lives through this lens of stewardship, generosity becomes less of an obligation and more of a natural response. We recognize that our gifts were never meant to be kept to ourselves.

They were meant to be multiplied.

Generosity Reflects the Heart of God

God’s character is generous.

We see it in provision, in grace, in mercy, and ultimately in the gift of Christ. When we choose to live generously, we reflect that same heart to the people around us.

Sometimes generosity looks like meeting a tangible need. Other times, it looks like showing up for someone in a difficult season, offering guidance, or simply listening when someone feels unseen.

Not all generosity is visible. But all of it matters.

Your Gifts Have Purpose

It’s easy to underestimate what we have to offer.

You may not feel like you have enough time. Enough money. Enough expertise.

But generosity isn’t about having abundance before you give - it’s about trusting that what you have right now can still make an impact.

Your ability to encourage someone.

Your willingness to walk alongside a family in a hard moment.Your knowledge, your story, your compassion.

These are gifts.

And when you offer them freely, lives are changed - including your own.

Generosity Builds Stronger Communities

When people begin to live generously, something powerful happens.

Barriers come down. Isolation lessens. Support systems grow stronger.

In the work we do at Aging Ally, we see this every day. Families navigating complex healthcare decisions often feel overwhelmed and alone. But when someone steps in - with guidance, advocacy, or simply a steady presence - it changes everything.

That is generosity in action.

It creates clarity where there was confusion.Peace where there was anxiety.Connection where there was isolation.

A Call to Live Open-Handed

Generosity is not reserved for a select few. It is a calling for all of us.

Not someday. Not when it feels convenient.

Now.

It’s found in the small, everyday choices:

  • Taking time to check in on someone

  • Sharing knowledge that could help another family

  • Offering support without being asked

  • Giving, even when it requires trust

When we live this way, we become part of something much bigger than ourselves.

We become vessels of God’s love in a world that deeply needs it.

Moving Forward

If you’ve been wondering how you can make a difference, start here:

Ask yourself: "What has God placed in my hands?"

Then, with intention and faith, begin to give from that place.

Because generosity is not just something we do.

It’s who we are called to be.
